Universities of Rome

The University of Rome (Italian: Università di Roma) was a university located in Rome, Italy and one of the earliest to be established in Europe.

The University of Rome has been reorganised into three autonomous universities in the 1980's due to the increasing number of students enrolling at Sapienza University of Rome, the only existing public university of Rome at that time.

The term University of Rome is reserved to each one of the three public research universities in Rome:

Sapienza University of Rome is still the largest university of Rome and of Europe, enrolling 147.000 students.

University of Roma Tre is the second-largest university of Rome.
